Tonight was the last lesson of the term so to celebrate we had a small party for all the ESOL students at our community learning centre.

We gave out certificates, people shared international food and we took some pictures…

Thanks everyone for a great party and another great year of classes. See you all after the summer holidays, back ready to continue the studies from Thursday 19th August onwards… Have a lovely summer.

We completed studying the grammar around ‘even’ and moved on to how to use ‘even though’ and ‘despite’. We also completed our studies about phrasal verbs – tonight we looked at some travel and holiday scenarios that use phrasal verbs. For example, to get away / to take off somewhere / to check in etc. Today was very hot in Edinburgh so we were thinking about our summer holidays so these phrasal verbs could prove useful!!

Today was the day of the General Election so we just spoke about again briefly and what would happen next…

Then we went on to studying some phrasal verbs – tonight we looked at a couple of scenarios which used them – dating and going to a party.

We then looked at some grammar – using the word ‘even’ to express surprise or something unusual.

With the election coming we spoke as a class about politics and the UK political system. We also compared it to systems in other countries. We also had a quick look at some election leaflets and spoke about the differences in the main parties. We finished off with some reading that helped explained the UK political system.
